H.S Prannoy and Tan Chun Seang penetrate in the main round: 2011 India Open Super Series
India’s H.S Prannoy and Malaysia’s Tan Chun Seang have qualified into the men’s singles main round after beating their opponents in the qualifying round of the 2011 India Open Super Series, at New Delhi, India, today on April 26. Prannoy defeated his compatriot,
Guaranshu Chopra, in a straight-game match, whereas Tan Chun crushed T Nagendra of India in straight sets.
Prannoy is one of the best back-up shuttlers in India. He opened his campaign against Chopra in a superb way by playing top class badminton. He remained ahead of the opponent in the first half, where he was leading the game with an 11-4 margin.
After the 60-second rest, the young Indian continued his attacking game and stretched his lead by reaching 15-5. Chopra was helpless against the talented opponent who was playing a perfect game. Prannoy clinched the opening set with a surprising score of
21-7, in just 8 minutes.
In the second game, Prannoy continued his aggressive run in the match by playing positively. Chopra made many errors that helped his opponent to build a good lead of 11-5 in the first half of the set. After the break, Prannoy maintained his lead and grabbed
the second set with a 21-14 margin, in just 10 minutes. The ending score of this one-sided 18-minute match was, 21-7 and 21-14
Malaysia’s Tan Chun also proved his worth against Nagendra. The Malaysian outclassed the Indian proving that he belongs to a superior class of badminton. In the opening set of the match, Tan Chun remained far ahead of the opponent by playing superb game
and won the set with a huge difference of 21-9, in just 9 minutes.
In the following game, the Malaysian progressed in the game with an incredible pace and quickly built a comfortable lead of 11-4. Nagendra had no answer to the powerful smashes and perfectly executed net shots of the Malaysian. Tan Chun took only 11 minutes
to win the second set with a 21-11 margin. The final score of this 20-minute fight was, 21-9 and 21-11.
