H. S. Prannoy penetrates into Men’s Singles round-of-16 at Yonex Sunrise Vietnam Open Grand Prix
India’s budding shuttler H. S. Prannoy proved his worth on court as he advanced into Men’s Singles round-of-16 after defeating Akbar Panji of Indonesia in second round clash at the Yonex Sunrise Vietnam Open Grand Prix 2012 on Wednesday, August 22, in Vietnam.
The in-form Prannoy, who is un-seeded shuttler in the tournament, played to his maximum potential and remained successful in beating his stubborn opponent in a tremendous three-set contest.
The spirited Indian shuttler showed an incredible performance on court as he played remarkable badminton and took the opening set but lost the second one. However, he showed great temperament in the deciding game and won the battle with a reasonable margin.
On the other hand, Akbar also played well and managed to level the match by winning the second game.
Nevertheless, Indonesian shuttler could not dictate the terms in ending points of final set and lost the rubber-game clash with a respectable score on the board.
In the first game of this Men’s Singles clash, both shuttlers played with precision but Prannoy showed his tremendous skills and took over the control from his rival.
The Indian shuttler employed his powerful smashes and took a reasonable lead until the mid-game interval.
After the break, the spirited Prannoy continued his staggering performance and eventually won the first set with a superb 21-15 score on the board.
In the second game, Prannoy lost his focus enabling his rival to take control of rallies and remained struggling until the end of opening half.
After the mid-game interval, the Indian shuttler tried his best to live up to expectations but failed to bridge the gap and lost the set with a one-sided score of 13-21.
In the decider, Prannoy geared up his speed and did not let his opponent to build lead this time. The score remained tight as both shuttlers played positive badminton.
After the interval, Indian player played safe badminton while remaining quick in all areas of the court and managed to take the set with a close 21-18 difference on the board.
The impressive Prannoy emerged as victorious in this rubber-set contest in 50 minutes with a reasonable score of 21-15, 13-21 and 21-18.
