H4 Visa & GC Questions

Hi,

My spouse is planning to pursue her masters in dentistry when we land in US next year. She will be on H4 visa.

Can anyone tell me if my spouse can do so on H4 visa or does she need to go back to my home country (India btw) and change her status to student visa?

Also when can one apply for a green card? What's the normal duration for obtaining a green card?

She can study on a H4 visa. As for the green card if you are on a H1B visa your employer would be the one you speak to about a green card, you can not apply yourself. Remember this is optionable they do not have to apply for you. Many US companies will not do this due to the time and expense involved.

The wait for the green card is years on a H visa just look at the priority dates and you will see that.
