  1. Anyplace you visit must be judged by your preferences, not someone else.  I am fascinated that Dr. Frank's wife is able to say that the whole USA is unpleasing, as I doubt that she has visited the entire country.  Few US citizens have seen the entire US.  I was in the military and have traveled extensively throughout the US and the world, and my wife owns a travel agency which adds to the places we visit, and I have yet to see all 50 states. When I travel, I try to enjoy each place for what it is, as opposed to looking for the thing I don't like about places.  I have found that I am rarely dissatisfied with my location, but on occasion there are some places which have no redeeming features.

As far as the Baltimore area is concerned, that area has mountains and hills and is very green with tall trees.  There are some historic sites (understanding that  European colonization of the area did not start until about 400 years ago, so the history here is not quite as long as in Europe).  There is also a lot of modern development, especially along the waterfront areas.  There are many other communities in the area which can be nice to visit, and the Chesapeake Bay is a nice area. It is also a very short drive or train ride to the Washington DC sites.  You can travel from Baltimore to Union Station in DC on the train, and then use the DC Metro rail system to see all the sites and museums there.

As with all cities in any country there are more and less affluent areas in Baltimore, but overall it is a nice city.  I fly into Baltimore at least once a year, and always enjoy the area.
