HBL overcome NBP in Faysal Bank Cup by 64 runs

HBL was put into bat first by NBP and the team amassed 273 runs in their allotted 50 overs. In reply, NBP played below par and the team was all-out in the 44th over, scoring just 209 runs.
The decision at the toss by Fawad Alam took everyone by surprise, as he elected to field in pure batting conditions.
HBL started their innings with Imran Frahat and Taufeeq Umar. However, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Humayun-c63602 Farhat joined Taufeeq at the crease and the pair constructed a 48-run partnership
for their team. Humayun was out after scoring a cameo of 32 runs from 24 balls.
Taufeeq played steadily and got good support from veteran Saleem Elahi. The pair gave a 55-run stand to HBL and took the team out of trouble. However, Taufeeq failed to capitalize on his start and was out after making 35 runs.
The fall of three wickets didn’t bother Saleem and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Shan-Masood-c89637 as the pair played brilliantly and scored half-centuries for their team. Saleem was out after making 63 runs and Shan constructed a brilliant knock of 76 runs before his wicket fell. Kamran Hussain
exploded in the final overs and took the team to a decent total, scoring 21 runs off just 10 balls.
The NBP bowlers were expensive but the attack bowlers picked up wickets. Uzair-ul-Haq took four wickets in the match and Mohammad Talha dismissed two batsmen.
In order to chase down 274 runs, NBP needed a solid start from their top-order batsmen. However, their top-order was devastated by some lethal bowling from the veteran medium-pacer Shahid Nazir.
NBP lost their top four for just 44 runs and the team was in deep trouble. Hammad Azam and Fawad Alam offered some resistance and scored a useful 63-run partnership for the fifth wicket. Hammad failed to carry onto the start he got and was out after scoring
27 runs.
Sarmad Bhatti gave support to his captain and the pair scored yet another fifty-run stand for the team but just when things looked good for the team, Sarmad got out after scoring 26 runs. Fawad Alam scored a good knock of 82 runs but it was all in vain,
as the team was all-out with more than six overs remaining in the match.
Shahid Nazir was exceptional with the ball for HBL. He took four wickets for just 22 runs in seven overs. The rest of the damage was done by http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Danish-Kaneria-c1314 and Mohammad Aslam, who took two wickets each for their team.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Shahid-c89347 was named player-of-the-match following his match winning spell on a flat batting track. HBL proudly lifted the trophy after their successful campaign.
