  1. Same quality of picture and sound.

  2. The differences:

Blu-Ray uses 25 GB single layer (50 GB dual), HD DVD uses 15 GB single layer (30 GB dual)

Blu-Ray and HD DVD both have a different selection of movies....at first there were a few studios supporting both formats like Paramount, Warner and New Line, but now most of major studios have picked Blu-ray while HD DVD only has Paramount, Dreamworks and Universal for major studios.

Blu-Ray uses AVC MPEG-4 to encode video while HD DVD uses VC-1 encoding.

Blu-Ray and HD DVD both have the option for Dolby True HD or DTS HD Master audio, but only Blu-Ray has uncompressed LPCM audio.

HD DVD has more special features like picture-in-picture, web enabled features....Blu-Ray will have this capability in the future. The only current player able to update itself to be compatible for these features is the PS3, early adopters of Blu-Ray will have to buy new players. Anyone who has an HD DVD player already has everything they need....so no need to buy a new player.

  3. we all don't now who will win these are just heir say and rumors people like to spread around picture quality is the same with both players i have both player and they are superb  i have 20 movies in HD and BR i have 10  but it is to buy an expensive unit when you don't know who will win i have them because i have to have it that is just who i am but if i was you just starting i would not bother because we don't now how will win the war and there is no pole to look at so on the last heart like the guy above he don't know. I you are need of one i would recomand Toshiba A3 for $149.99 and 2 free hd-dvd movies and 5 by mail at best buy don't have 1080p at 24fps only 1080i at 60fps witch is a step up from dvd movies and blu ray well sony $500 no movies  for a decent player and sometimes you can find it for $400 no movies compare that to Toshiba HD-A3 $149.99 and 2 free movis
