Question:

HD-DVD overscan?

I have an HD-DVD player (Toshiba HD-A3) and a Samsung projection HDTV. When I watch HD-DVDs on this set, the quality is great, but the overscan cuts off about 15 percent of the picture info. It turns out that I can watch standard DVD properly by simply using the zoom function on my other player to zoom out from the image. But my HD-DVD player has no zoom function that I am aware of. My television's picture mode function won't allow me to change anything either, since it doesn't work when HDMI or component connections are being used.

Any hidden zoom features I am unaware of? Do any other HD-DVD players, which are cheap now, have a zoom function? And yes, thanks, I know that HD-DVD is a "dead" format, so please refrain from reminding me of that.

  1. The overscan comes from the TV. See if there is a pixel-to-pixel (or 1:1) mode under HDMI which avoids overscan.
