Does an HDMI Switch decrease the the quality of the HD?

  1. Just make sure it's HDCP compliant and it won't do anything to the signal except switch it. Some actually strengthen the signal so that if you were to have a 25'+ cable run it would regenerate the signal at the correct voltage level so that there would be no signal loss.

    HDMI is a digital signal that has packet recovery/validation so if the signal gets messed up it tries to correct it and if it can't then it drops them. Too many dropped packets and you just won't see or hear anything. It's much different than analog where you could get coloration of audio/video.

    One thing a switch or repeater can do is add a small amount of delay (>4ms). This doesn't degrade anything though as things should still be in sync.


  2.   The ones that are now being made should not do any degrading in any way. After-all, that would defeat its very purpose.
