HD TV: can you buy a hd receiver that isn't sky or cable?

Ie can you get a freeview HD receiver - to just get for example the BBC HD channels? Or do i have to sign up to that awful sky service? (We donn't have cable in our area).

    HD Freeview receivers are due to be available in spring 2009 (but that date has already been put back twice).  Until then, HD is only available through cable or satellite.

  3. no . Only Sky are doing it, and it' s really just for dedicated couch potatoes.

    It's too early to buy an HD television.  Wait till the craze dies down.

    Besides, it is just the same rubbish they are showing. It's high definition rubbish, but it is still rubbish. Do you really want to see every hair up Ken Barlow's nose.
