  1. No offense, but that's like comparing an apple to the tree.

HD is the type of programming defined by the number of pixels on the screen. The different formats are often called 720i, 720p, 1080i and 1080p. The result (compared to a SD format of 480) is a clearer, sharp picture that can show more vibrant colors.

HDMI, however, is a type of connection used between your set top box (either cable/satellite receiver or OTA HD antenna) and your television. There are a couple other HD connections, but HDMI is widely claimed to be the best (though not all TVs support it as well as the next) because it delivers the sound and picture to the TV in one cable. The second best option would be to use Composite cables (the red, blue and green ones paired with separate audio cables) because it still delivers a superior picture, but requires more connections.

    Does that help?

  2. HD stands for High Definition and HDMI is the cable used to connect an high definition device to a HD TV or monitor

HDMI cables carry both high definition video and audio signals
