Question:

HDMI Audio "Pops"?

I have seen this issue all over the place in the PS3 section of almost any forum, but my issue is different. I bought the Toshiba HD-D3 (HD DVD player) and when I hook it up to my TV via HDMI I get "popping" noises (more like stuttering audio) even when the movie is paused but when I hook it up using component I have no issues at all.

It happens more when I set my HD DVD player to 1080i (from 720p) I did that as a test. The only thing I have in common with the PS3 folks is that I bought the HDMI cable from Sony because it was the longest the store had.

My setup goes like this:

HD DVD ---HDMI---> TV ---Red/White cable---> 5.1 Reciever

My laptop does the same thing so I know it isn't the HD DVD player. Any input is appreciated.

  1. Why are you using analog sound cables?

    HD DVD ---HDMI ---- TV HDTV --- use Digital coax or Digital Optical if your set has that feature? If not go from the  HD DVD using Digital Optical Sound to your 5.1 Decoder Receiver. If you Recever doesn't have these features time to get either 5.1 or 7.1 that does.
