I have an older HDTV that doesnt have a connection for an HDMI cable. Is there any kind of convertor that will allow me to connect my HD Dish DVR to my tv through an HDMI cable?

  1. you need some serious hardware to convert a digital hdmi signal to something like analog component video.  this is one such device:  the VisionFC4, sold on ebay.  be ready to drop about 200 bones for it.

if your dvr has component video outputs, you can run regular rca cables to the component input on your tv.  you will still get a high-def analog signal capable of 1080p, if your tv supports that.  also note that you don't have to buy "component" cables...you can run regular red/yellow/white cables, just make sure you connect same color holes together (green to green, blue to blue, etc).

is there a special function on the dvr that requires an hdmi connection?  in that case, you will need the converter.

  2. In many cases, you can convert HDMI to DVI if your TV sports a DVI input. However, if you do not have either HDMI or DVI, you should be able to connect your Dish box to the display via component video and still be able to watch programming in HD.
