Question:

HDMI / Phono switcher box?

Hi, I hope you can help. I need a box which will be able to switch between the following:

INPUTS:

1 DVI PC input

3 Scart or phono inputs (doesnt matter which)

3-4 HDMI inputs

OUTPUTS:

One HDMI output, one phono audio output, one headphone output.

Any advice would be greatly apreciated. The main thing is to consolidate everything so that input doesn't have to be selected anywhere except on the box.

No sound amplification is necessary.

Thanks

Russell

  1. Short of having something custom built, there isn't anything out there that will switch between all those different cable types.

HDMI is still fairly new, and so what few switches I have seen in stores were several hundred dollars.  I was looking for something that could switch both HDMI and have a optical audio breakout jack, and the prices started at $1500.

Even my "old" switch that can handle component video, s-video, composite video and optical audio requires that the switch be connected with each cable it - in other words - it cannot convert the input signal to a different format for output.  So if I have a s-video and component video device, the switch must be connected to the TV with both s-video and component video.

For your situation, sounds like you're going to have to use your TV and multiple switches.  A SCART switch should be cheap enough, but a 4 port HDMI switch will run you about $300 (~150 pounds, you get the idea.)

  2. you can try radio shack. they will have something like that.
