Question:

HDMI Switcher compatible with PS3?

I just purchased a Philips automatic HDMI Switcher online. I just know realized that it is HDMI 1.1 compliant, I thought the PS3 has to be 1.3 compliant to work. Am I right. I'm plugging the PS3 into the switcher. Will it decrease picture quality, not show any picture?

here's product

  1. If you still encounter trouble with your HDMI switcher.

Check out this Marantz HDMI switcher:

It is a 1.3 HDMI switcher and will work great. It is also one of the BEST switchers available.

    Hope this helps!

  2. No it should work fine. It is true that HDMI should be 1.3 for 1080p but there are many people using 1.1 or 1.2 with 1080p and having no problems. Try it and see. If you are using 720p you have no worries.

  3. 1.3 vs 1.1 TECHNICALLY can use more bandwidth.. In reality you have to be using both a 1.3 source, a 1.3 monitor and 1.3 material which is not at all common (or cheap!).

Furthermore, 1.1 cables/switchers are not incapable of passing 1.3 bandwidths, they just haven't been tested at the higher bandwidth. Get your switch, test it out, and if you see any degradation then return it. Otherwise  don't waste the money on bandwidth capacity that you wouldn't actually be needing for years to come (if ever).

  4.        The most features on HDMI 1.3 are for future proof. If you don't have any high end TV or receiver, it will be OK.
