  1. Well first off a basic thing. make sure that your HDMI output on your blu-ray is connected via HDMI to an HDMI Input on your reciever. As far as I know the only truly uncompressed audio format is DTS audio wheather it be DTS ES 6.1 or the normal DTS format. Also make sure that your player is set to send the audio AND video via HDMI and vice versa the reciever. I know what some recievers dont accept audio signals from HDMI also, so if you cant get it to work then try buying an optical audio cable (toslink clable) or a digital coaxial cable. (I prefer optical however). Hope that helps.

  2. you cannot get true hd from optical/coaxial cables.also if your receiver does not have hdmi connection on rear then it is not a hdmi receiver even though it has it on the screen. some screens on receivers are used on several different models

Hd sound , your talking about True HD or DTS master audio right?

Well first of all youu can only get it from a Blue-ray player, not from a cable box or regular dvd player.

If your receiver is not hdmi equipped there is one option to get uncompressed True HD sound

Your receiver must have analog Multi-channel inputs in rear, and your blu-ray player must have analog multi-channel outputs.

the chances are good that your receiver has the 7.1 inputs.but while many Blu-ray players have the 5.1 multi-channel output not many if any (yet) have the full 7.1

You can get regular dolby digital and dts with optical/coaxial

connection, but not the new hd sound formats.
