Hi guys,

I'm trying to decide how to enhance my mac pro. I have a playstation 3 and also love gaming. A PS3 had an hdmi port which i use with my tv. Should i get an apple 30" display to get the best resolution wtih an hdmi to dvi converted connector or should i get an hdmi television?

Also, i want to buy a set of sony home theatre speakers with wireless rear speakers, would i be able to connect them to my mac?

Thank you in anticipation of you replies!

Andy

  1. Your PS3 will not be able to take advantage of the full resolution of the 30" Apple cinema, but your Mac will.  So the question really kind of is if you want resolution or size.

The PS3 will most closely match the resolution of a 24" monitor (1920 x 1080 vs. 1920 x 1440).  Which is still a good monitor, but a little small for a TV.

If you decide to go for size and a TV... make sure to get a 1080p or "Full HD" TV.  Both the Mac and the PS3 will look tons better than on a 1080i or 720p TV.

As far as home theater speakers... look for one with lots of inputs.  I've been burnt by not getting enough.

  2. Get the largest quality display you can afford!

You mac has optical digital out, so if the HT system you are considering has optical in - you are all set.
