We're having trouble getting sound when we connect the HDMI cable in the receiver. Can you please help my directing us to a "How to…" chart?

BTW, the receiver is an Onkyo.

  1. Not all receivers  accept audio through an hdmi.   try an optical cable or a digital coax.  you will get digital sound through those.

  2. Hi, What model is the Onkyo? Is the HDMI cable plugged from the source into the Onkyo?

    Thanks

  3. The early HDMI receivers only accepted video through HDMI, and you would have to use a separate connection for audio, for example optical. That's probably your problem. go to their website and checkotu the specs of your model. It will tell you if you have both video and audio passthrough or just video. Hope this helps!

  4. either one of two things...

ur reciever doenst support audio through HDMI.  u can connect surround sound with an optical toslink cable or coaxial audio cable.

ur device isnt set to send audio using HDMI.  i know that in some devices like the ps3, u can chose if u want audio through optical or through HDMI.  make sure have chosen the right setting if there is one.  also ur device may not support audio through HDMI. check online or in its manual to make sure.
