Question:

HDMI cables with HDTV?

I have an HDTV and a DVD 5.1 surround sound home entertainment system. I receive my cable feed straight from the wall, no cable box. Is it possible to use my HDMI cables to watch tv while using my entertainment system for sound? If this isn't possible, which cables do I need to purchase to optimize the sound heard from tv using my recently purchased entertainment system. Thanks.

  1. try to use your optical sound output  to your amp or stereo system      it would help alot if you said which stb you are using they all have different outputs and what are your inputs to what you are connecting to

  2. Norton is right. Use optical if you have that option on your equipment. It is great for sound, has barely any signal loss.

  3. So, from what I understand, you have straight cable, no HD cable box or anything? Or are you saying that you want to use the HDMI cable for watching DVD's?

Anyways, the HDMI cable works for both audio and video, hence the digital AV cable vs. Analog. You'll need a cable box to have your cable in HDMI.
