HDMI connection, any difference in picture quality if you connect HDMI straight to TV or using reciever?

I'm using ONKYO TX SR 805 reciever, I notice a lil difference in picture quality when I hook the HDMI to tv instead of receiver, I might be wrong or missing a correct settings thats why I'm asking this,,,, & 1 more question about the sound quality, any difference between HDMI, optical or digital coaxial in sound quality? THANKS....

  1. Depending on your audio and video source, not much difference in sound and picture quality.With your receiver, you can enjoy the new HD sound formats if you have PS3 ( playing Blu-ray movies ) or newest stand alone Blu-ray player by connecting HDMI.


  2. The difference is picture quality is due to the down conversion of a 1080i signal to a 720p signal. Whichever one looks better is doing a better job with the conversion. Should be similar sound quality between the types you mentioned (they're all digital).
