No i was wondering if we should go with the HDMI or just use the HD cables (red, blue &green)

Also does HDMI send audio as well.

Any help would be gr8t thanks

  1. use hdmi and if you do so you will need to use the optical port for audio

  2. Use HDMI, I buy mine from E Bay. Not expensive there.

  3. It depends what you intend to watch. If HD ... you will be best in the long run to buy HDMI. If SD -- although why you would buy a 60" plasma to watch SD I don't know -- you don;t need HDMI.

HDMI carries digital HD video (up to at least 1080p) and multichannel audio.  Component (red/green/blue) will carry HD (usually limited to 1080i) video only.

No mater what you watch if you already have the component cables you could probably use them, but you will also need optical or digital coax to carry surround audio.  If you don't have the cables it may actually be cheaper to buy budget HDMI cables than buying both component and optical.  Performance won't suffer (digital pretty much works perfectly or not at all (See link 1 for an article on why you don't need expensive HDMI cables)). Monoprice.com (Link 2) are a good source for cables. Look for HDMI version 1.3 certified cables (category 2) and you can't go far wrong.

In the long term you will need HDMI for HD because analog cables (e.g. component) will eventually be limited to non-HD video resolution. So now is probably a good time to buy HDMI.

    Hope that helps.
