Question:

HDMI or Comcast?

I have a 61in Samsung DLP Television and a Samsung home theater system while I get my HD signals from Comcast. I have an HDMI cable going out of the Comcast box and going in to the surround sound. Then I have another HDMI coming out of the surround sound into the TV. My problem is that when I'll be watching TV, all of the sudden, the picture and sound will dissapear for a few seconds and then soon come back. It will do this constantly and I dont know what is going on. Could it be a problem with Comcast or is it something wrong with the surround/TV. Could there be an update I could upload or a new HDMI cable I could buy?

  1. disconnect the hd reciever from the surround reciever, and connect the comcast box directly through the tv, with one of the hdmi cables, if the problem persists, try using your other hdmi cable, if that doesnt stop the problem call comcast and tell them they gave you a peice of **** reciever, it is not uncommon for the comcast recievers to malfunction. i have had three of them break in the last two years,

  2. First try connecting the comcast box directly to the TV (via HDMI).

This way you can eliminate the receiver as an issue.

If that works, connect dig. audio out from comcast to the receiver to get your 5.1 sound.

  3. I would call comcast first and talk to them it sounds like it could be their problem

  4. Definitely try to get a tech out to check on signal levels going to the box, try to let them know if it's specific channels or just all of them that you notice doing that.  But it also could be a delay between the box and the tv caused by having the home theater system in the middle, it is unfortunate but it happens.  You could try going just video from the box to the tv with one cable and just audio to the sound system with an audio cable and seeing if that helps. Hope it works.
