Question:

HDMI or Video Component for my PS3?

i have my PS3 connected to my high def tv thru a hdmi cable, i want connect it thru a component cable so i that i can connect it to my surround sound.... will i loose the quality of my picture in my games n movies? it says "Transmits high-definition video" on the label (for the component cable)

  1. You will still have high-def, it just won't look as sharp as your HDMI makes it look.  I'm not sure if it's possible, but you should be able to go from the PS3 to the surround sound and then from the surround sound to your TV.  I think, I'm not sure, but you should def. try to keep the HDMI hooked up somehow for the PS3.

  3. If you buy a crappy 'component' cable designed for 480i signals, you can loose some fine focus and color density because the cable does not cleanly transmit the higher frequency video signals.

    480i signals - max at 4 mhz

    1080 signals - max at 35 mhz

    All cables will 'transmit high-def video' so that label is misleading.

    Get a good cable for about $60 from www.bluejeanscables.com  This stuff has bandwidth over 100 Mhz and these cables are what production studios and network TV stations use.

  4. Keep HDMI from PS3 to TV to get the best video. Use optical cable output from PS3 to receiver to get surround sound.
