  1. HDMI (High-Definition Media Interface) is the only way to get true high-definition output to your TV. If you're using anything else (component, S-video, etc.), you're not getting a high-def picture.

  2. If your TV had the input, which if it is HD it should, you can use it to output HD from your PS3 to the TV.  This is the only way.  HDMI uses uncompressed info both audio and video giving you the highest quality transmission possible at this point.  Other feeds, including the AV cable it comes with, provide less quality.  The cable that comes closest is a component cable, which uses red and white for audio, and green, red, blue for video.  this type is also capable of an HD feed, but you can find inexpensive HDMI cable on EBay, so go with that.  Its much less cumbersome than a 5 wire cable.

  3. standard AV cabkes can only do 480i thay are not HD and you can use the hdmi cable as long as your TV can take it :-)

  4. You can can do 1080i on component as well.

  5. hdmi offer 1080i and above and component cable give u max of 780p
