Is a digital coaxial cable producing the same quality sound as an HDMI cable

  1. yes they both will produce a digital audio output the difference is that hdmi have all in the same cable and optical/coaxial output wont pass the newer audio format like True HD and DTS HD found on some Blu-ray titles and HD-DVD titles.

  3. No, both RCA and TOSLINK (fiber optic) have some losses through the cable. The shorter the cable the less the loss. Also, the higher quality the cable the less the loss.

    For the most part if you are dealing with cables six feet long and under with decent quality cables, most people won't be able to tell the difference.
