HDMi from Laptop to HDTV to Receiver?

Question

If I run an HDMi out from a laptop into a HDTV, then optical out from HDTV to a receiver, will the audio play from my receiver in 5.1?

Better check your TV manual.  Some TVs only output optical audio from the internal tuners and not any external devices.
