  1. Make sure you have subscribed to an HD channel package and that you're using an HDMI cable to connect to your TV.

  2. In order for any picture to be in HD it needs a source in HD. For example a HD TV isnt a HD TV as such, it has a TV tuner which recieves in HD and the TV displays it.

Therefore you will need to stay in HD from the tuner in the satellite reciever to the TV. You will need to be on a HD service from your satellite provider, route from the satellite box via HDMI  (High Definition Media Interface) into the HD DVR then from the DVR HDMI out into the TVs HDMI in.

Also, if you display any signal on a HDMI TV, if it doesn't come IN as a HD signal, it wont be turned into HD, therefore it won't become any better.

  3. OK, so you've got an HDTV, and the Phillips HD DVR.  The only way to get HD satellite programming, is if the satellite box is also HD.  If it's not HD, you won't get any HD satellite programming, even on your HD DVR.

If you have a standard satellite box, all you have to do, is exchange it for an HD box (there's probably a fee for that).

  4. You need to make sure that your cable box is HD, not just digital. You need an HD package. Also, keep in mind, not everyone films in HD. There are regular cameras for filming and HD cameras. So, you need to make sure that it is legitimate HD.
