Question:

HDTV Questions?

Im considering getting my first 22-24 inch LCD HDTV but I need advice on the good makes and models to go for instead of going straight for the well-known brands. Im looking to spend around £250 as I'm kind of pushed for money at the moment. Ive just had a quick look at some reviews which said they benefited greatly out of buying a HDMI cable, is this a good investment?

The TV will be used primarily for xbox360 gaming if that has any specific needs.

Thanks,

Russell

  1. You don't need an HDTV. Get a standard LCD monitor, for about 100 quid.

If you look at the definition of 'HDTV', you'll find that it's purely based upon an ability to show greater pixel definition that standard TV, and able to receive an HD signal.

Now, every monitor made within the last 10 years already beats the resolution requirement for HDTV - and as you want it for your XBox, receiving an HD signal is not an issue for you...

EDIT for the thumb-downers - if you don't believe me, check here -

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/High-defini...

You'll note that virtually any PC monitor or LCD TV can cope with the resolution required of HDTV - the only reason they can't be badged as HDTV is that they can't receive an HDTV signal...

  2. All the reviews say this Sony is fantastic. You might want to look around for a cheaper deal as this shop is slightly above your budget.

One thing that counts against it though is its not full HD, but you would be hard pressed to get a full HD set at that size.

If you can push your budget up a bit, you would be better going for one of the Panasonic full HD 32" models,
