HDTV Settings?

I just recently purchased a 46" Sony S3000 which is a 720p tv(look it up) then when I plugged in my ps3 via HDMI it asked if I wanted highest settings possible for this TV then I clicked yes. The ps3 then said it was outputting in 1080p. The TV also said this. Now this tv is only supposed to go up to 1080p, is it doing some kind of fake upscaling or is it actually producing 1080p?

The TV is converting the signal down to 720P. You may want to try setting the PS3 at 720p and compare the pictures. Sony does a good job with converters so you may not see any difference.
