Question:

HDTV Volume different from regular TV?

I just got a new HDTV to replace my old HDTV. When I change the channel to an HD channel, the volume is very low compared to the regular channels. I still have the same Dish network receiver. Any idea on how to fix this so that the volume is consistant across all the channels?

  1. Hi there,

I'm not sure what your setup is so my answer is going to be limited. Someone in my family had the same problem. There is a setting called 'automatic volume' where when you change sources (in your case when you change from analogue to HD- I think) the sound goes to the same volume every time. Try to find that option by perhaps going into Menu > Settings > Sound then see if you can see automatic volume, if you can- set it to what you like.

There is also sometimes a feature on new HDTV's called noise reduction- it basically stops from any of the 'electronic noises' interfering with your TV sound. I doubt it's this but it's definitely worth a try. Using the same method- go into the Sound option from menu and see if you can adjust the sensitivity.

    I hope this helps.

    Query.

  2. Yes, often times the tv is set in the menu or via the remote control to maximize stereo or dolby sound for HD channels and they broadcast accordingly.  So, like, when I watch the tonight show at a low volume (because my wife is sleeping) and Jay is talking and he actually says something funny and people laugh or the band plays, it can get much louder.  It's pretty much the same on the regular channels all the time.

Play with the sound level button on your remote.  That's the easiest way....
