Question:

HDTV and Gaming?

I've been going back and forth between what HDTV to buy. I even bought a Westinghouse 32in (720p) which they said (1080p) wouldnt matter at that size. But when I played GTA IV and Rainbow Six: Vegas on my PS3, The images were very very edgy. A light pole in GTA IV seemed to be a million edgy lines. (Note: I am using HDMI this whole time) Though the picture in general was alot clearer than my previous TUBE TV. I was just very dissapointed. So in conclusion I returned the TV and am now TV - Less.

SO my question is what type of HDTV should I go with to smooth out those edges. Im not looking for anything bigger than a 32in and my budget is around $700 - $850, prefferebly on the lower end of those numbers lol.

  1. You want 1080p and the highest contrast ratio with the lowest "ms response time".

I found this TV on sale for  $949.00 before shippin. It's a 32 HDTV LCD Full 1080p and 12,000:1 dynamic contrast ration with fast 5ms response time.

  2. Turning down the sharpness helps a lot. I haven't seen an LCD TV that isn't too sharp at its' default settings (i.e., turned it down on all of them), so for your next TV, remember to do that.

And for your next TV, you should be able to get a great Samsung at somewhere in your budget range. I recommend Newegg - top brands' 720p sets can be had for $700, and you can find a couple of 1080p sets for $900.

  3. a 32in 720p produced jaggies with HDMI cables?   hmmm.... welll maybe you should get a 1080i tv.   I wouldn't expect a 32in 720p to do that but oh well... but then again, the game could be like that.  try it on someone else's PS3 with a 1080 tv.

and yes in general you cant see a big difference on a 32in TV between 720p  and 1080p.  when a picture screen is scretched over 40in is when you would want a 1080i or 1080p picture quality.

Vizio's are cheap HDTV's.  check them out.

  4. You may want to be sure that your PS3 is outputting to 720P and not 480.  Other than that, it all comes down to TV quality.

TV's happen to be one of the products that manufacturer matters allot!!  Personally I am currently in love with Samsung.
