Question:

HDTV and cable box Combo?

So I've been working on my mom to get an HDTV for 2+ years, and finally a break in the iron defense! She is confused by the 2 remote scheme (DVD and cable box, sometimes it is a better picture if we run the cable though the DVD recorder, but thats getting a little complicated for her), and if I can find a TV that has what would essentially be a Cable box and TV combo, we could get a new HDTV. Does this even exist? Please help!!

We have Comcast cable (but would probably switch to WOW if they ever came down our street), if that matters at all. Please help, I'd really like an HDTV. Otherwise, I have to wait until 2012 when there is the mandatory switchover.

  1. Since you have cable, there is no mandatory switch for you.

Even if there is a switch, your TV will work just fine with any set-top box you can get from your cable company.

Most new HDTVs have a cable tuner, but it is good only for the unscrambled (clear) channels. If you want your TV to fully replace your set-top, you need a HDTV with a CableCard slot.

I would get any good HDTV and a separate Comcast box with a dual tuner and a built-in PVR.
