Question:

HDTV channels?

I just recently bought a brand new Olevia LCD HDTV. When I brought it home and hooked it up, it asked me to do a channel search, so I did. It told me that I had 280 digital channels and 68 analog channels. But for some reason I can only search up to channel 107.3. Is there any tips on how I can access those other channels that it told me that I have?

  1. Although it said 280 digital channels I don't think it meant that you can get channel 280.  I see you mention channel 107.3 so it sounds like you might have channel 107.2 and 107.1.  If so then that would count as three channels.  That is how they are counting the digital channels.   As another example, if you have channels 100.1, 100.2, 100.3, 100.4 and 100.5 that would count as five channels.

  2. There's no way that you're picking up that many channels over the airwaves.  You're doing just fine with what you have.

  3. The likelyhood is that the majority of those channels are encrypted...I'm guessing by the channel count you're using cable. Your TV is picking up the digital cable channels (even if they're not HD, because, it's just a digital tuner), but it can't decode/decrypt some of them...yes, even basic cable is encrypted on digital. You're likely to find your local channels in HD, and POSSIBLY a cable channel or two.

But no, it's likely you CAN'T access those without a CableCard (if your TV and provider support it)
