If your tv has a component input does that mean that it is an HDTV? I have a 2004 Sylvania SRT2432P 32" and I am trying to hook my xbox 360 up to it. When I switch the adapter to HDTV, on my component channel is black and white and kind split, so the xbox dashboard is seeing double. I don't know if my tv is messed up or its not even compatiable with my xbox. I dont know if I can buy something to fix this or what. My cords are properly connected. Any help would be great thanks.

  1. 1. NO, component does not mean HD, but HD can be sent through component.

    2. Your TV has component inputs, but they are only for 480i signals. this TV does not support any progressive scan signals.

    3. When you send a progressive signal through an interlaced input you will get a split picture.

    4. As for the black and white, this would most likely also be do to sending it a progressive signal. Though can also be that the GREEN cable is the only one that is connected.

To fix the problem hook it back up using the standard composite video connection (yellow). And check for a 480i component option. If it has this option, then you are good to go. If not, then your stuck with composite video(which is also 480i)

Either way you are only going to get a slightly clearer, cleaner picture with component VS. composite since there both gonna be 480i, there is no resolution benefit.

    Buy a new TV.
