Question:

HDTV movies in fast forward?

I just got a Philips 52" TV and I notice that some of the movies (whether on the HD channel or not) appear like they are running in slightly faster speed than normal. I don't really notice this on TV shows or Sports much. Is this an optical illusion or is something really different.

  1. Movies are shot at a different frame per second rate than TV.  While movies are shot at 24 fps, TV displays images at 30 fps.  I'd believe that this conversion would cause the movie to look like it is running a bit faster.  You wouldn't notice this with regular television shows that are shot at 30 fps because there's no conversion involved.
