I have a PS3, and a dvd recorder. What cables should I get to plug these into my new hd tv? I've read that there are better options than the basic red, yellow, white component cable.

Any thoughts? I've also heard about a hdmi cable but don't know what use that is.

  1. HDMI (high definition multimedia interface) is the best way to go if your tv and HD box have them. HDMI is a digital way to hook up audio and video. It's one cable and has a flat connector. They look like the picture in the link below. If your DVD recorder doesn't have an hdmi output, use the component (red, green, blue) rca output. You will also have to use the red and white audio cables.

  2. hdmi is a great fit because it offer hd quality audio and video, it is the next level up from component cable. inspiretech sell a decent one for 5 bucks

  3. By using HDMI you can output the highest quality from your PS3 to your HD TV (1080p) but just like there are $30 DVD players and $200 DVD players, there are cheap and nasty cables and there are good quality cables. Without a good cable, your high quality PS3 signal cannot be shown at its best on your TV. Look at brands such as Belkin or Monster for good cables...
