  1. Dolby 7.1 signals MUST be on the DVD itself....if it isn't, the Dolby 5 and Stereo signals from the DVD disc does show up as the PCM audio (pulse code modultation)

  2. I have a 60G PS3 hooked up by HDMI through an Onkyo 7.1 receiver (HT-SR800 7.1 system) to an HDMI input on my Sony 57" HDTV. However, the 2 HDMI inputs on the Onkyo are pass-thru only so in order to get the surround to work I had to run an optical audio cable from my PS3 to my receiver. I then had to configure my PS3 in the system settings to pass the audio through the optical output. My Onkyo 7.1 system was a package that came with the receiver, 7 satellites, and a powered sub. The actual model# on the receiver is HT-R550. Your receiver may have the same features (2 HDMI inputs, 1 HDMI output) but what you want to find out is if the inputs are "pass-through only". If they are you will need to run an optical audio cable as I did. If your receiver has "full switching" HDMI capabilites then you shouldn't have to run any extra cables. I  hope this fixes your problem. Good Luck! If you aren't sure what your receiver has then just google the model# and you should be able to find out.
