  1. Of course I want to answer this one! I'm not sure what you need, but...

    - Pacifist Quaker women made mittens for the Union soldiers, helping them to stay warm while making their trigger fingers unusable. (Most soldiers rarely wore the mittens for that reason.)

    - General Lee traveled with a pet chicken that laid one egg under his cot every day.

    - More men died from diarrhea and dysentery than gunshots during the Civil War.

    - Lincoln didn't believe black and white people could live together and planned to relocate the freed slave population to Central America.

  2. The United States Civil War was the bloodiest conflict in American History, claiming more lives than The American Revolutionary War, World War I, World War II, The War against Switzerland, The War of 1812, and the Vietnam War combined. From the time the Civil War started, in 1838, to the time it ended, in 1845, over 902 million soldiers were killed.

    Good luck.

  3. Even though Gen. Lee surrended on April 9, 1865, the final shots of the war were not yet over.  Gen. Johnston didn't surrender his troops until April 26, 1865, and Stand Watie, the leader of the Cherokee nation, and a confederate brigadier general, didn't stand down until June 23, 1865.

Due to the lack of quick communication in those days, fighting was still going on after the official signed surrender documents had made it to President Lincoln.
