I have 3 cats, 1 is fine and doesnt bug any of the others. THe other is a dominant male who excessively grooms my female (all are fixed and about 2-3years old). The female has no hair left on part of her head above her ear (both sides) and the abrasion has become a bit bloody, very tender and raw looking. We saw the vet yesterday and he called dermatits, but TONIGHT I pinpointed that it IS my other cat l*****g and nibbling that's the cause.... my question is: anyone know how to stop excessive grooming and l*****g? anyone else have a cat who grooms itself or other things (blankets, ropes, toys, etc) too much? how did you fix it?

Thanks for your suggestions!

  1. To stop horses chewing things you use a spray that tastes realy bitter and stops them from chewing, this is called crib stop. You could use something that tastes bitter such as cribstop on the cat that is being licked and it will deter the l*****g cat.

Hope that has helped, and make sure the spray is not going to harm thet cat that is being licked by it getting in the sores.

  2. Man, this is a tuff one!!!  One of my cats groomed a lot when she was younger.  She groomed me every morning, l*****g and nibbleing.  She groomed her brother (which caused him to be lazy, so now he NEVER grooms himself causing dredlocks on his long thick fur)  She groomed all cats she saw, etc.  She doesn't do it anymore now that she's grown.  I would say put something on the other cats head that tastes really bad, but being a cat, it may l**k it off anyway.  Maybe shew the cat off or lightly pop it's butt everytime it starts grooming the other cat.  Eventually it may get tired of that.  I'm sorry i'm not much help.

Try reading this, I just found it  http://www.ehow.com/how_2307707_stop-cat...

Didn't read it yet, but hopefully it has some good info.
