It started the other night. I didn't even sleep cuz she was having difficulty breathing. I was so worried I couldn't help her. I've tried staying in the bathroom with steamed hot shower but it didn't help. yesterday we went to her pediatrician, it was her first check-up after she was released from the hospital. She prescribed salinase nasal drops to be applied 1-2 drops on each nostril 3x times a day and nasal decongestant .25ml every 6-8 hours. She had mucus and it was yellow. Right now she's just all stuffy. What are other home remedies that can help my baby?

  1. use a nose sucker thing they are sold at any drug store

  2. put a couple of drops of saline wait 2-3 seconds then use the green bulb to take it out...it should work, just sit there into something comes out...use a humidifier also.my daughter had congestion up until we left texas(the air was so dry it was drying out her nasal passage so to compensate she got a stuffy nose).I know its difficult to sit there and take mucus out with the bulb but your baby will have a clean nasal passage.

  3. My daughter was a preemie and spent the first 3 weeks in the NICU w/ all that hospital air perfectly regulated, the minute I brought her home she stuffed up, I was like you I couldnt sleep she was miserable, what I did that worked was got a warm mist humidifier, target has one for like $12.00 Vicks. I swaddled her up and put her in her bouncy seat because it was elevated, propping her up on the sides w/ rolled up blankets so she wouldn't tip sideways and put the humidifier next to her, and I used the saline drops, the NICU recommended I use them and the bulb suringe, placing a drop of saline in massage the bridge of the nose lightly after it has sat for 30 seconds to a minute lightly cover one nostrel w/ your finger and suck the other. That is exactly what the NICU nurse told me to do, so its not just some wackjob torture Idea I came up with. it worked, my daughter hated it, but it cleared out her nose. It does take time to go away though, they have alot of adjusting to do and unfortunately it's summer so there is alot of junk in the air. My baby has been home for 3 1/2 mo and is just clearing up now. Good luck, she will be ok.

  4. You need to get one of those things that you stick in their little nose and suck it out.

  5. Your baby is far too young for home remedies. Stick with what she has been prescribed, and if she seems to be still miserable all the time, take her back to the doctor.

  6. hi there,

most babies are quite stuffy when they are first born whatever you do dont panic it should just work itself out. If your baby is finding it hard to breath when lying down flat put a very thin pillow or a towel underneath the mattress to prop the baby up slightly this will help with the breathing.

For god sake dont use a nose sucker thing your baby skin is very sensitive and could take a reaction to the sticky stuff on it and the only thing that is going to do is make your baby very upset when you take it off. hope you listen to me i am a mother of 2 and had the same problem with both my babies.

    good luck xx
