HELP!!! Algebra problem with fractions and dividing and multiply?

Question

HELP!!! I learned it in school 2day and now i forgot! Algebra problem with fractions and dividing and multiplying!

Here is the problems that i am stuck on..i know that once someone tells me i will get it but, now i just don't get it at all!

35 + 5/2 y - 1/2 y = 3

4 y - 13 y - y = - 150

And also i spaced on this....if i have -8y do i multiply it or divide it to get back to y?

First one.

Use bodmass!

5/2y- 1/2y = 3 - 35

                  = -32

5/2y- 1/2y = -32

4/2y= -32

4y= -32 x2

    = -64

y= -64/4

   =-16

Secnd one

4y-13y-y= -150

-9y-y = -150

-10y= -150

y= -150/-10

  = 15

always do the opposite to the opposite side of the equation, and to the function in general.  Example:  -8y = 1.  To get just why, divide -8y by -8 to get y=-1/8

1) 35 + 5/2y - 1/2y = 3

35 + (add the fraction, the numerators 5 and 1, keep demoniator 2) = 3

35 + 6/2y = 3

35 + (6/2 is the same as 3, since 2 fits into 6 three times) = 3

35 + 3 = 3

38 = 3

it isn't equal, so the equation is false

2) -8y

you divide by -8 to get y, so:

-8y divided by -8 is equal to y

35 + 5/2y - 1/2y = 3

so put together like terms

35 + (5/2y - 1/2y) = 3

35 + 4/2y = 3 or 35+ 2y = 3

so you subtract 35 from both sides

2y = -32, y = -16

4 y - 13 y - y = - 150, imagine there is a 1 in front of the y because there is but you usually don't need it there

4 y - 13 y - 1y = - 150

-9y - 1y = -150

-10y = -150, divide both sides by -10

y = 15

-8y divided by -8 equals 1y which is the same thing as y

the 1st and 2nd ques. i can help you on. the first answer you add like term the y's and get them on one side. the divide the numbers of y by itself and 32 the # you will get with the step told above and you should get  -16

the same thing for # 2 and you should get   -15
