  1. Your best bet is to get a betta care book at a pet store.  Or find a web site that provides simple instructions.

One big thing is not to use a small bowl.  A betta should have at least 2 gallons, but I'd recommend 5.  With a 5 gallon it's easier to keep the water at a constant temperature, and you could even put a couple of cory catfish in with him.

See the following site for good info.

  2. First keep your betta alone from other bettas.    Then keep him in a 5 gallon tank (10$ to 50$) with a filter (usualy comes with it.)       You may add like 2  small fish like cories as the betta won't attack them.

  3. First of all, you'll want a bowl or a tank of at least a gallon in size. 2 1/2 would be even better. With a gallon sized bowl, you'll have to do water changes every 3 days to keep your little guy healthy. With a 2 1/2, every week, and so on.

The ideal temp for bettas is 76-80 degrees. If your room temp isn't that high, and you don't use a heater, then your betta may be slow, lethargic, and dull-colored. Small heaters usually cost around 10-15 dollars.

Make sure you use a water conditioner when you change your betta's water - it removes harmful chemicals like chlorine that will kill your little guy. You should feed your betta twice a day, small meals (2-3 pellets) of a high-quality betta food like Hikari Bio-Gold. Skip feeding one day a week to help prevent constipation.

Make sure your tank or bowl has a lid - bettas are excellent jumpers. I myself have experienced the loss of a betta who jumped through a 1/2 inch gap between the edge of his tank and the lid.

That's really it for basic, basic care...bettas don't need a filter or aeration (they have a special organ that allows them to breath air from the surface). If you have any further questions, feel free to e-mail me, or join the betta forum I've included. Bettas make wonderful little pets, and when given the proper care and conditions, are bright, curious, and active little fish with unique personalities.

    Good luck!

  4. Well you could get a 5 gallon hex for 30-40 dollars at petco and you can get heaters cheap and by the way they do better with a filter so you don't have to clea the tank as much. Here are some instructions:

    1-let the tank cycle

2-get the betta but only 1

    3-feed it once a day

    4-clean tank every week

If that helps you could even get some corys in a 5 gallon or bigger. Hope that helps :)

  5. wow................  you only need 1 or 2 gallons of housing for it.  also, NO FILTERS, HEATERS, OR AIR PUMPS ARE REQUIRED!!!  you just have to feet it 2 to 3 floating pellets and just add water to the bowl if necessary.  the betta can breathe air.  you wont have to worry that much about it.
