My cockatiel just flew out of her cage. She is in my room with the shades down. But her wings are not clipped! Worse than that, she does not trust me at all! She keeps flying to two different spots at the top of the ceiling (which is not too high up!) I'm really nervous and I don't want her to attack me! HELP!!!

  1. um.. im not an expert just a child but i always use a blue hankerchief and shake it in front of its face den it cowers and den i just snatch it<softly>><

  2. Eother wait her out until she is good and hungry and she will go back in herself to eat or get a net or towel and net her. Then put her in cage. I would work on building a trust with you before this happens again for sure. Get a good book on these birds and go from there. I doubt she will attack you. Will just lead you on a good chase. Put some treats in her cage. She will tire from her great adventure and go in. Just make sure you are there to shut cage. Good luck.

  3. hhaha

  4. She won't attack you.  Honest :-)  She is obviously WAY more frightened than you are.

Go in and cover any mirror so she doesn't fly into it.  Then turn down the lights, open her cage door WIDE, and give her a chance to go back in of her own accord.  The lowered lights will simulate evening and she'll want to get ready to roost for the night.  That will likely mean returning to her cage where she feels safe.  (And sooner or later she's going to get hungry and thirsty.)

  5. Throw a cloth over her, like a towel, not too heavy, and get her back into the cage.

  6. Birds will not fly in the dark. I usually turn off the light and cover the windows so no light comes in( or wait till dark). I wait till they are in a place were I can throw a towel over them and pick them up. The towel will protect you from getting bit. Be careful that you don't crush them though. Sometimes I will have another person on the light, If you flash it on real quick you can see where they are without them moving. I did this for years working at the pet store. Good Luck
