I asked this already, and searched for others asking the question, and everyone is giving mixed reviews, some say to eat before and some say to eat after...so what is the correct answer?

If it helps any I am obese(437 lbs) trying to lose weight and the cardio i will be doing is 45 minutes on a treadmill.

Thanks for any help :)

  1. before because you need to have calories to burn

  2. your choice, but if it is before, try eating at least an hour and 30 mins before, because if you eat and then exercise too soon you can get stomch cramps and they can hurt pretty bad, but you also have more energy. Also you can eat complex carbs(like pasta)(a handful) and a handful of veggies and a handful of a prptien like chicken breast. the night before, then cramps aren't a problem and the carbs are ready for energy.

Body for Life (google it) i believe it is the best "diet plan" out there.

I eat afterwards, its more rewarding and fulfilling to me.

  3. before because it'll give you energy to exercise more and that way while your exercising, thats time between one meal and another.

    good luck. =)

  4. im not sure on this.  but this might help.. when i was in the Army.. throughout basic training, AIT and at my duty station, we always worked out at 6. went back to the barracks showered and then went to breakfast. So maybe eating after you workout is best.

i would think so cuz after you work out, your metabolism is sped up so therefore making it easier for your body to break down the food you ate.

So.. i suggest you workout first.. then eat.

    LOL. good luck.

  5. personally i would do half and half...

i know that i am starving after my workout even when i do eat before...

so this way you can burn half your breakfast off while you are running and then after you are done your metabolism is still working fast so eat the other half and you will not be hungry till lunch or so

  6. i would eat something light like a light whole wheat english muffin with a little bit of peanut butter and jelly.  Don't eat anything really heavy at breakfast--something with fiber and low sugar.  This will give you sufficient energy.  You need energy that can be metabolized fast to get a good workout, and that is what's in your stomach to begin with. The energy from fat is absorbed last.  I know, it sounds like a catch 22 method, but this is how it works, and I would not advise you to work out for more than 20 at a clip until you are comfortable moving on the treadmill at moderate speed, 3-5 mph.  Be careful, honey.  Get used to it first.

  7. I would say before, then I would ask my doc or dietitian.  Keep it up.  Sounds like you are on your way to a new life.
