We are organizing an event that requires blessing of the ships/sailboats for a race. Can someone tell me how we go about doing this? It is a very large scale event so we need to hype up even the blessing but I have no idea regarding sailing. Please help....

  1. i put names on boats for a living and we always tell the captains to go get 2 bottles of wine. one for you and your friends and one to pour over board for the gods of the sea.

  2. Go to one of your local churches and arrange for a Pasteur to do the blessing on a certain day. You will kind of be expected to make a donation to the church but if everyone involved puts some money up for the event, then you will have set up a great day for all and money for church and their charities all of which are great causes (and tax deductible if that ain't enough for some). Your blessing is a phone call away.

  3. New Bedford and Gloucester fishermen have been doing this for umpteen centuries now......google "Blessing of the Fleet".

  4. Try a poem instead:

    "Sea-Fever"

    I must down to the seas again, to the lonely sea and the sky,

    And all I ask is a tall ship and a star to steer her by,

    And the wheel's kick and the wind's song and the white sail's shaking,

    And a grey mist on the sea's face, and a grey dawn breaking.

    I must down to the seas again, for the call of the running tide

    Is a wild call and a clear call that may not be denied;

    And all I ask is a windy day with the white clouds flying,

    And the flung spray and the blown spume, and the sea-gulls crying.

    I must down to the seas again, to the vagrant gypsy life,

    To the gull's way and the whale's way where the wind's like a whetted knife;

    And all I ask is a merry yarn from a laughing fellow-rover

    And quiet sleep and a sweet dream when the long trick's over.

    By John Masefield (1878-1967).

  5. Hey now,you might try to get all the boats to tie up next to each other on a dock or pier so your pastor can walk along and bless each boat or position him on a bridge and have all the boats pass under the bridge while the pastor blesses them

  6. Is this symbolic only, or do you want it to work?   there is a difference.   If you want it to work you'll need an authorized Melchizedek priesthood holder.  If it's for show, then you can mock Diety with whomever you please.
