So I have it narrowed to 2... a new 08 G6 base model 4 cyl......OR a used (18800 mi. ) Grand Prix 3.8 V6 for about half the price of a new one... I'm torn...any advice would be great...I am a mom of a teen w/ a new baby on the way and need something that will be practical yet fun to drive :) There's about 6,000 dollars difference in the prices, but, these are the 2 cars I've narrowed it down to. Thanks for good, honest opinions :) I hate making decisions like this.....

  1. I would most definitely go with the Grand Prix. It's hard to find them with that few miles. The G6 would get better gas mileage, but it would be close to as fun to drive. The G6 is too heavy for the 4 cyl engine they have in it. With the Grand Prix you will get 30 more horsepower, 80 or so more foot-pounds of torque, and you will be able to get about 23-25 mpg in the city 28+ on the highway. I have a modified, supercharged Grand Prix and I get 27 mpg on the highway. Then with the growing family, the Grand Prix will give you more room because it is a bigger car. One more note is that the 3.8L V6 in the Grand Prix is great! It has been named one of the best engines of the 20th Century by Ward's, and I'm guessing you are looking at a 2004 or newer model, so the ride will be very nice.

  2. Grand Prix, its more safer, and has alot more room for your kids, and the 3.8 v6 should make it somewhat fun to drive, and not bad on gas :))

  3. I would pick the used car. That is a big difference in price and the used one does not have that many miles on it. Even if something does go wrong with it, the $6000 you have saved will fix almost any problem you might have and the chances of having something major go wrong at this mileage is very low. If you are short of money, you should save as much as you can. Also, the difference in gas mileage really is not enough to base the decision on.

  4. I'd assume you are in the U.S? I don't know what fuel prices are like where you live, but if there anything like here i would opt for a 4cyl vehicle, but buying new is a bad idea. the moment a car rolls out of the showroom it loses a ridiculous amount of value.

By all means a 4 cylinder car is a better idea as far as fuel economy, and modern 4 cyl's are still alot of fun to drive, but it would be better to get a used or ex-demonstration vehicle so you save some money for fuel :)
