Ok, so I bought the car from a dealer in Georgia, a friend of my ex's family. I have the bill of sale. The car is registered in Tennessee, my home state. I currently live in New York State. Some guy just bought my car, he paid in cash. I went in to look for the title of the car, and couldn't find it immediately, and told him I couldn't find it, but I would find it and give it to him tomorrow. He really wanted the car, so he gave me the money and I wrote him a receipt, stating that I still owed him the title. Well wouldn't you just know it, I have turned this house upside down and can't find it! I am so frustrated I could cry. Well, I believe now that I must've lost it in the move. I looked it up online, and I know I need to apply at the DMV for a duplicate title. BUT in what STATE??? The car was purchased in GA, registered in TN, and being sold in NY? I think that it's either TN or GA, not NY, but which one? I plan to tell him and offer him a full refund, if he wants..

  1. Tn probably since that is where it was registered

  2. check in tennessee.. i'm pretty sure it's there..

  3. Wow! I know it is overwhelming....but first off, don't sell the car unless you are ready.  That is #1.  If you change your mind about selling it, just tell him so.  If you decide to go ahead and sell it, you will just have to let him know it will take some time to get the duplicate title. Which was the last state you registered it in? Check there first.

  4. who registered it in TN?  if you did, i bet the title is in TN.
