i am going on holiday for a month in july and i am in desperate need of a pet sitter that will look after then for the whole month. i have two albino male rats (Socrates and charlie) both around 4 months old and i need to find someone to look after them or my mum threatened to leave them on a street corner. i really don't want this to happen because i love them so much. we went to our local pet shops but they cost 8 bucks a night and thats way to expensive, we will pay you to look after them, but nothing really night, and we will give money for food etc. please if anyone knows anything that could be of any help, i live in Mar vista/Venice area of california, i have until the first of july to get them somewhere!!

  1. I don't think Jean read the MONTH part of that, haha.

Don't EVER just leave them with extra shavings for a month. They would be dead within two weeks from the ammonia buildup.

The pet store would most likely be your best option, see if they will offer a special rate for a full month.

This site will be VERY helpful, I think. It is the National Association of Professional Pet Sitters, and they will help you find a sitter in the area: http://www.petsitters.org/

It's convenient I was just looking at that site this morning!

  2. We'd love to rat sit but we live in Washington state. Here are some ideas we've used when we need help:

Go to a bulletin board at a pet store, or check classifieds for anyone who is selling rats, then just call them up and ask. They would probably not mind watching yours.

Ask a child if he/she wants to make a buck, he/she'd find the rats interesting, and wouldn't expect to get paid much. Start with neighbor kids. Don't assume parents will veto the idea, us moms love seeing our kids have varied interests.

As a last resort, set them up with some kind of perpetual feeder, a huge water bottle and lots of shavings. They won't chew each other up by the time you get back, they'll just smell bad.

    Good luck.

  3. Put an add on Craigslist (craigslist.com) then you click on your state and city, and post under the pet section. It is free to post and you usually get a lot of responses.

  4. WOW, I would just DIE  to be able to look after your rats, but I live in South Carolina. I want pet rats sooooooo bad, and it would be a DREAM come true to look after your rats, for FREE! Sorry, this is all I have to say. Good Luck!

  5. ask your friends or try craigslist.

p.s. i live in new jersey so theres no chance i can be of any more help.
