Question:

HELP: Dishwasher overflowing???

I was trying to clean my dishwasher. I had it on "pots and pans" and for extra settings, "rinse" (cause of the cleaner I had in it I wanted it rinsed twice) and "extra heat"

Then water started dripping out the bottom. I caught it in time so I used a cup to scoop out some water and now I don't know how to get it fully emptied to start over. If I start a new cycle with the old water still in there, it will overflow again.

What do I do???

  1. What type of cleaner did you use?  Most likely the hot water is reacting with the cleaner and producing too many suds.  Try putting a half cup of vegetable oil in the machine to reduce the suds and run it on  a normal cycle.

  2. The float thing is probably stuck. Sometimes they get gummed up with calcium and lime deposits. Open the door, the float is usually located in the front right corner. Gently pull up on it and see if the water goes down. Also if you have garbage disposal make sure that it is ran. A clogged up garbage disposal can make it hard or impossible for you dishwasher to drain properly.
