HELP!!! Does BV cause risk of miscarriage, preterm labor and/or low birth weights even if you treat it early?

I am 6wks 2days pregnant and I am currently treating a BV infection that I have.

I read on the internet that BV during pregnancy causes risk of miscarriage, preterm labor and low birth weight.

I want to know if there is still a risk if you diagnose and treat the BV early on in your pregnancy.

Please, educated responses only preferably people who work in the medical profession.

Thank you.

  1. The risk is still there for the miscarriage and preterm labor. Actually the earlier you are diagnosed with it during pregnancy the higher your risk is and there really haven't been any studies to determine how much if any treating the BV will decrease the chances of problems. There are some studies that have shown treating BV during the second and third trimester does reduce the chances of preterm labor and low birth weights, but there are many others that don't show any reduction of those chances. There is also evidence that taking the metronidazole during the first trimester may not be safe for the baby.

  2. I'm don't work in a medical profession.

But at 27 weeks i had bv. The way my doc explained it was it's like yeast infection once you treat it it's gone but it can come back. You get it alot while pg due to the fact that your hormones are changed. I have had yeast infect like 3 times this 37 weeks and 1 time of bv. For the bv they first gave me a pill which i was allergic to so they then gave me a cream that i had to put in once in the morning and once at night for 7 days.

Once you have been treated for it and it's gone the risk is gone. That's what my doc told me
