Okay so the water in my tropical tank has gone cloudy thanks to the new gravel. I cleaned it thoroughly, but obviously not throughly enough! My question is, will the fish be okay in the cloudy water or should I try and arrange alternative accomodation? (I have a spare tank but it's not set up, though I have a bottle of SafeStart bacteria and spare heaters etc.). Help!

  1. Typically your filter will remove the particles within couple hours. This will not harm your fish and it would be better to leave them in the established tank rather than move them to a new uncycled tank.  I used to work in a fish store and i have seen my manager add new gravel to a tank without rinsing it at all; it was so cloudy you could barely see the fish.  I wouldn't recommend this, but within a few hours the water was back to normal, and I just rinsed the filter off to remove any particle build up. Didn't seem to bother the fish at all

    Good Luck!

  2. I think they will be able to live for a little bit, but If you keep cleaning it, try using a gravel vac or take the gravel out and clean it without bleach. then, do a 50-70% water change

  3. it depends how long its been cloudy. sometimes it does take a couple of days to settle in the water. if not by then, i would recomend taking the gravel out and changing the whole tank of water. If you think the water will turn cloudly again, go to a new pet shop and ask the person at the counter if he can recomend some gravel that will not make the water foggy. Maybe he will tell you that you didnt clean the gravel properly. If so you know what to do :D

  4. the same thing happened when I changed the gravel for my fish , it'll be ok if there's a filter inside the aquaruim then it should be gone in a couple of hours cuz the filters suck up the fog like a vaccum cleaner. Hope this help ;)

  5. well the fish will be absolutely fine, think of it this way, when u go down your local river or lake is it crystal clear water??? fish are used to cloudy water and some even prefer this, you filter will clean the tank in due time but DONT make mistake of changing all the water, just do 15-20% changes every other day if your worried bout it,

  6. Don't worry they will be fine.. Most fish are used to this and some like it too.. As long as you have a filter in the tank, you're fine..

  7. the fish should be ok as it will settle have u checked nitrate nitrite an ammonia if they ok it should just mean waiting for a few days to clear. personally i wouldn`t add safe start bacteria as it does nothing for the tank
